Ed Skrein was keen to make sure his work on a Carolina Herrera fragrance campaign didn’t turn into a “soulless endeavour”.
The Deadpool star was cast as the face of Carolina’s Bad Boy aftershave in late 2019, and in the images, a suited and booted Ed, in a velvet tuxedo, smoulders into the camera in solo shots and in photos with model Karlie Kloss.
He admitted in an interview with GQ Style that he loved working on the shoot.
“I had a hoot, man! I was excited by the challenge to try and make it an interesting project, and not just some soulless endeavour,” he admitted.
“If this was a campaign for a bad-boy fragrance in the ‘90s, it would be a very different energy, a very different tone.”
Further talking about modern masculinity, the 37-year-old Londoner opened up about his love for Muay Thai, and how the Thai combat sport improves different aspects of his life.
“I’ll get up in the morning, go with my nine- year-old (son Marley) to Muay Thai,” he shared. “I’ll do the adult class, and me and other consenting adults will smash the lights out of each other, and train to do one of the most brutal martial arts – elbow, knee strikes and all this – and sweat together, with respect and understanding, hug at the end of it, and then I’ll come home and take the baby, and look after the baby while my missus goes and has some time off.
“This, to me, is a normal duality. The strength we’re using in Muay Thai is helping us to be spiritually balanced, and physically strong, so that we can be good parents, and emotionally literate.”
