Ed Sheeran ‘open’ to recording Bond theme for 'No Time To Die'
Ed Sheeran is so keen to record the theme song for upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die that he asks about it “every day”.
The singer’s manager Stuart Camp recently revealed to Music Week that he and the Shape of You hitmaker have already met with the team behind the eagerly anticipated 007 outing, despite knowing that the “thing they do last is the music.”
He explained: “We met [Bond producer] Barbara Broccoli when we played Dublin [in 2017] and they were interested.
“Danny Boyle was attached to the film after that, who made Yesterday [which Sheeran starred in], so there was a close connection there.

“Obviously they changed directors but we’re still open to it, but they’re not even having those conversations yet.”
In August 2018, Boyle stepped down as director on the project, citing “creative differences” between himself and studio heads before Beasts of No Nation helmer Cary Fukunaga came in to replace him.
Months later, Trainspotting filmmaker Boyle told Empire magazine that the producers weren’t keen on his regular writing partner John Hodge’s script. Boyle said he didn’t want to remain working on the film alongside a new screenwriter, so they “decided to part company” together.
In the new interview, Camp went on to dispel the rumours that Daniel Craig is backing Sheeran to perform the new theme, saying: “Those [stories] that said he’s Daniel Craig’s favourite act and it’s all happening aren’t true.
“It’s certainly something he’d want to do though, it’s a box that’s still to be ticked, for sure.”
While the music may be the last thing on the agenda when it comes to making a Bond movie, if the No Time to Die producers do want Sheeran to record it, they had better lock him in sharpish as the 28-year-old recently announced that he’s taking 'a few years' off work to spend time with wife Cherry Seaborn.
That said, he may not need to do much work for it, as he’s previously teased that he’s had a song about the fictional British spy “written for about three years, just in case.”
Other artists that have recorded Bond themes in recent years include Jack White and Alicia Keys, the late Chris Cornell, Sam Smith and Adele.
Also starring Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Jeffrey Wright, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Bohemian Rhapsody’s Rami Malek, No Time to Die will be released in UK cinemas on 3 April 2020.
