"Until recently I've never gone out of my way to seriously suggest a storyline to the writers," he told Inside Soap magazine. "I'll always drop a bit of banter, but just the other day, for the first time, I did actually text Chris Clenshaw (executive producer of EastEnders).
"I asked him 'What do you think about...?'
"A seed was planted, it wasn't pooh-poohed, so watch this space!
"If it comes to fruition, I will let you know – I will say, 'See! Remember when I said about the story? This is the story!'"
The actor also revealed which co-stars he'd like to share more screen time with.
"I'd love to do more scenes with Natalie Cassidy (Sonia)! We did some nice scenes recently around Lola's death. That was lovely," he said. "Those scenes we filmed kind of mirrored my relationship with Natalie, she's like an aunt to me.
"Or I'd like to do more with Stacey," Jamie added. "Me and Lacey (Turner) are incredibly close in real life, I call her Big Sis, she calls me Little Bro. But Stacey and Jay are poles apart on screen!"
"Jay's had many low points in his life, but his lowest ebb is right now, at this moment, after losing Lola – 100%," he said.
"Jay was happiest when him and Lola first got back together and found each other again, before she got ill. He thought he'd found the one.
"Other than that, Jay's happiest when the whole family get together and him and Ben are getting on well. Marrying Lola was a happy time, but I can't say that was the happiest because it was so bittersweet."
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
