EastEnders airs Ben Mitchell exit scenes as Lola cancer storyline continues

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Ben Mitchell has made a temporary exit from Walford in Lola Pearce-Brown's final days in EastEnders.

Ben has thus far refused to accept that Lola's cancer diagnosis is terminal, with his most recent attempt for a miracle cure has involved secretly meeting with Lola's specialist behind her back.

When Ben spoke with Dr Washington in Thursday's (May 25), he hung his hopes on the possibility of a treatment trial in America that he'd have to apply for in person.

Meanwhile, back in the Square, all of Lola's friends and family had gathered around her bedside to host their own version of a day at the races.

Ben showed up late and eventually confronted Jay and Billy about his plans to go to America to get Lola registered for this possible treatment.

Kathy and Callum were determined to get through to Ben as they begged him to accept Lola's diagnosis and treasure the remaining time he has with her.

However, Ben was insistent on going ahead, as he booked a flight to America. Before leaving, Ben asked Callum to stand by him as he tried this last-ditch effort to help Lola.

"I need your support over anybody else's, okay?" he told his husband. "I feel like I've got the whole world against me right now and I cannot feel like I've got you against me as well."

When Ben asked directly if he had his spouse's support, a reluctant Callum finally told him: "I'll always support you."

Viewers do know that Ben will eventually be back in the Square, but his last-minute flight to America is risky since Lola is in her final days.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
