Eason Chan denies emulating Jackie Chan in new comedy

20 Jun - Cantopop singer Eason Chan is back to filming again, this time playing an action star in the upcoming comedy movie, "Keep Calm and Be A Superstar".

As reported on Sina, the actor who appeared at the production commencement ceremony held at the Shing Fung Studio in a pink traditional suit similar to Jackie Chan's, denied that he is trying to emulate the action superstar in his new movie.

"Jackie is an icon, just like Sammo [Hung]. My character is a show-off. I have no intention [of parodying Jackie Chan]. If so, it would be unintentional and the director would cut it," he said.

However, Eason stated that there may be some similarities, although it wouldn't be intentional.

"I grew up watching Jackie Chan's movies, so [the performance] may have some of his influences," he explained.

The actor also admitted that while he didn't actually have to fight in the new movie, he still went on training with martial arts guru, Chris Collins.

"Even during training I realised I am very uncoordinated. I really have to rely on [action director] Jimmy Hung. Everyone knows how to fight, but to fight and look good doing it is a whole other matter," he said.

No information has been given as to when the movie will be shown in cinemas.
