It’s the franchise that keeps on giving. We may not have a new Fast & Furious movie this summer, but Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, the first spin-off from the series, is almost here – and Dwayne Johnson says “it’s like jazz”.

The Baywatch star made the comment when responding to a tweet by Broadway star Alex Boniello. He added, “listen my friend – you have to treat @HobbsAndShaw like Jazz music and juuuuust go with it. Let it take far far away.”

The action legend was responding to Boniello’s on tweet in which he expressed fears about what the movie might hold. “I keep avoiding trailers for Hobbs and Shaw” Boniello wrote, because I don’t think my weak constitution can emotionally handle watching @TheRock uppercut a f***ing plane, or something.”

Boniello is best known for his work on the stage, with starring roles in both Spring Awakening and Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway. The latter opens in London’s West End this October.

Filming wrapped on Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw back at the beginning of February. at the time, co-star Vanessa Kirby – known to many as Princess Margaret in Netflix’s The Crown – posted a picture of herself and Johnson on social media. She plays Hattie Shaw, the criminal sister of Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.

There have many rumours swirling around the franchise since the news of a bust-up between Johnson and Vin Diesel started circulating in 2016. It all started with a post on Instagram and it seems to have ended with the two actors unable to act alongside one another.

The result is Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. In the latest trailer – a new one will be released later this week Helen Mirren’s character, Magdalene Shaw, says “this whole thing sounds really dodgy”. We’re hoping she’s wrong.

But then it is a summer blockbuster so we should follow the Rock’s advice and “juuuuust go with it”.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is in UK Cinemas from 2 August, 2019.
