The Duchess of Cambridge admitted to feeling “very broody” as she met a five-month-old baby during a visit to Ballymena in Northern Ireland today.

As she cooed over the tot – named James Barr – his dad Alan asked the question on everyone’s lips: “Baby number four?”

Kate, who is mum to Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three and 10-month-old Prince Louis, laughed and said: “I think William might be slightly worried.”

There has been plenty of speculation as to whether the Duke and Duchess will have a fourth child, to follow in the footsteps of the Queen and Prince Philip.

During the visit, the Duchess also met schoolgirl Hannah Ritchie, who told Kate she was writing a biography about her in school.

Hannah asked her what the best thing about being a princess is, to which Kate revealed that she loved “meeting lots of people.”

Kate wore a new, blue, £1735 coat by Mulberry for the walkabout with a repeat blue Jenny Packham dress, her navy Rupert Sanderson courts and matching clutch by Jimmy Choo.

She accessorised with Princess Diana’s sapphire and diamond earrings.

The couple arrived in Northern Ireland for two-day visit on Wednesday.

For their first engagement in Ballymena on Thursday, Kate and William met police officers & staff at Hillsborough Castle, where they discussed the challenging roles they undertake.

Their next stop was the Braid Arts Centre, where they visited the charity Cinemagic, who use film, television and digital technologies to engage with over 500,000 young people.

Yesterday they visited Windsor Park stadium to learn about the Irish Football Association’s youth programmes and they went head-to-head during a football match, where William joked his wife Kate “goes for the ankles.”

They then visited charity Extern’s Roscor Youth Village, where they got involved in a number of outdoors activities.

Last night Kate and William attended a party at Belfast’s Empire Music Hall, where they met young people who are making a real difference in Northern Ireland. The duchess flawlessly pulled a pint while wearing a mint green dress by Missoni.
