Drive Director Discussed Wonder Woman Movie Starring Christina Hendricks

Nicolas Winding Refn has revealed that he met with Warner Bros about the possibility of directing the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie currently set for release in 2017.

The 'Drive’ and 'Neon Demon’ director revealed that he was insistent that 'Mad Men’ star and Refn’s regular collaborator Christina Hendricks play the iconic heroine.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Refn laughed off the suggestion Warner Bros would never even let him - a provocative and violent filmmaker - through the door, revealing the “very early conversation” he eventually had with the studio.

Pondering his answer for a few beats, Refn eventually said: “I love Wonder Woman, but I would only do it with Christina Hendricks.” He wasn’t pressed any further.

Refn has discussed his love of the DC hero and desire to direct a 'Wonder Woman’ movie with Hendricks before, describing her as “perfect” for the role.

Patty Jenkins was the director Warner Bros eventually went with, and she recently completed filming the film with Gal Gadot
as her star. Gadot, of course, debuted as the character in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ earlier this year.

The film is set for release on 2 June 2017.
