Drew Barrymore interviews her seven-year-old self in talk show promo
Drew Barrymore enlisted a surprising guest in order to promote her new talk show — herself almost 40 years ago.
The clip used footage of Barrymore today, spliced with clips from her 1982 interview with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show.

Barrymore was being interviewed in the wake of her work in Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial at the age of seven.
“I’ve been waiting all my life to meet you,” the young Barrymore says in the clip as she is introduced by her older self.

“Can you believe I have two daughters around your age?” asks the 45-year-old actress, to which the younger Barrymore replies that it’s “kind of scary”.
Both Barrymores then joins forces to let out a scream of excitement as she promotes her new daytime show, in which she’ll spend “an hour every day celebrating life”.

The Drew Barrymore Show is set to launch via CBS across the entirety of the USA in September.
The show has been described as aiming to bring “information, inspiration, and entertainment to the daytime audience”.
TV has been the focus for Barrymore in recent years, with 2015 drama Miss You Already her last appearance on the big screen.
From 2017 to 2019, she played the lead role of Sheila Hammond in Netflix horror-comedy series Santa Clarita Diet until it was cancelled in April 2019 after the third season.

She will return to the big screen playing the role of a washed-up movie star in romcom The Stand-In, penned by Peep Show co-creator Sam Bain.
The film was due to premiere at the Tribeca Film festival in April, but the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
