British footwear brand Dr. Martens and self-proclaimed lord of darkness Rick Owens have teamed up on a grunge-inspired, gothic-approved boot for spring 2024.
The latest collaboration between both brands, which was announced on Monday, resulted in the 1460 DMXL Megalace boot silhouette. The style features an exaggerated lace system, which became a signature of Owens’ brand, anchored by brushed silver hardware.

The 1460 DMXL Megalace boot is crafted with Lunar leather and Dr. Martens’ new DMXL sole, which comes with the brand’s famous yellow stitching across. The design of the shoe also includes an elongated tongue for extra drama.
To announce the new collaboration, Owens invited Turkish music artist Sissy Misfit, which is featured wearing the shoes in new black-and-white photos released today.
“I love using our collaboration to celebrate raw and ferocious self-invented abandon like that of Sissy Misfit, blasting techno with trans power. Dr. Martens always represented inspirational subculture to me and I like honouring that tradition,” Owens said via statement.
Dr. Martens and Rick Owens first partnered in 2021 and have since released different collaborations, applying Owens’ gothic aesthetic to the footwear brand’s iconic silhouettes.
In January, Dr. Martens released other gothic-inspired shoes for its Gothic Americana collection, which included the brand’s platform shoes, Chelsea boots and other styles presenting a Western-like finish. In December, the footwear brand also released its new 14XX collection, which aimed to bring workwear shoes to the future. Both collections are available at drmartens.com.
Meanwhile, Rick Owens recently went viral with his fall 2024 collection presentation in Paris, where he introduced inflated rubber pull-on stretch boots on the runway.
