"Downton Abbey" heads to the silver screen

26 Jun – All the drama of the Crawley family is moving beyond the small screen to Hollywood as "Downton Abbey" is getting its very own movie adaptation.
"There's a movie in the works. It's been in the works for some time," Michael Edelstein, president at NBCUniversal International Studios, confirmed during a red-carpet event for "Downton Abbey: The Exhibition" in Singapore, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Edelstein added that the studio is still "working on getting the script right".
They hope to be able to begin production on the movie sometime in 2018.
If this is news to you (you can unclutch that pearl necklace now), it's an even bigger news to the cast members, who had no idea of the silver screen project until Edelstein's announcement.
Despite not knowing of it beforehand, Sophie McShera, who fans of the British TV series would remember as assistant cook Daisy Mason or fans of 2015's "Cinderella" would remember as stepsister Drisella, said, "We would all love to be part of the film if it was to happen, for sure."
"Downton Abbey" ran for six seasons from 2010 until 2015. Set between 1912 and 1926 in the fictional Yorkshire country estate bearing the titular name, the highly popular TV series follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants.
Apart from McShera, expect to see the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Brendan Coyle and more reprising their roles for the big screen.
