Donnie Yen won't force son to succeed him as an action star

17 Dec – Donnie Yen has no intention to mould son James into an action star like himself, unless the 12-year-old is planning to do so in the future.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who appeared at the premiere of "Ip Man 4: The Finale" alongside his family, shared that James has actually been learning various types of martial arts since he was in elementary school.

"He enjoys the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has a black belt in Taekwondo. But he is lazy and doesn't want to practice anymore. It is hard to push your children. They will only continue if they are interested," he said.

Asked if James could be his successor, Donnie said that he does not intend to train his son to be like him.

"He is still young and should focus on school first. If he is interested in joining in the future, I will give my full support as a parent. But filming is not as easy as one would think," he said.
