Donald Trump Slams ‘Morning Joe’ Hosts as ‘Neurotic,’ ‘Clowns’

Donald Trump has been attacking MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” as a ratings-challenged show, but on Monday morning, he went a bit personal.

“Some day, when things calm down, I’ll tell the real story of @JoeNBC and his very insecure long-time girlfriend, @morningmika. Two clowns.”

The reference was to gossip that the two hosts of “Morning Joe” — Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski — have been secretly dating, but Trump also tweeted that the show was “unwatchable” and called Brzezinski “off the wall, a neurotic and a not very bright mess!”

Trump’s attacks on the media frequently include some mention of low ratings and readership, although he seems to not miss a slight. It’s not unusual for a candidate to complain about media coverage, but the difference with Trump is in magnitude and, on Monday, in the personal nature of his attack.

What apparently triggered it was a segment on Monday morning in which Brzezinski criticized a recent Trump speech by saying, “He belts it out like he’s had a lot to drink.” Trump does not drink.

“That is the most impolite delivery I have ever seen,” Brzezinski said, noting the double standard that exists because of the notion that Hillary Clinton has to deliver a speech that is “polite.”

Scarborough responded to Trump’s criticism by tweeting, “Thanks for watching. Morning Joe is enjoying it’s best ratings ever thanks to obsessed fans like you. GLAD.” He also tweeted, ironically, a quote from Trump’s new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway: “He doesn’t hurl personal insults and he regrets causing personal pain based on things that he has said.”

Brzezinski retweeted a Clinton campaign ad contrasting Trump’s speeches to her “calm judgment.”
