Dominic West says next James Bond should be transgender

Dominic West believes next 007 should be transgender.

Dominic West thinks that a transgender actor should play James Bond.

The British star, who has often been linked to the spy role, made the suggestion during an interview with the Sunday Times Magazine.

“Maybe a transgender Bond would be cool,” West said. “There’s a very cool woman who’s the wife of an actor in [his latest film] Colette, who is a captain in the electrical engineers, the highest ranking transgender soldier in the army.

The soldier he is referring to is Hannah Graf who has done two tours of Afghanistan and whose husband is trans actor Jake Graf.

“She’s a beautiful blonde girl who could be Bond, yes,” he added. “That’s actually a brilliant idea. They should have a transgender Bond because there are a lot of transgender people in the army.

“They’d be ideal because they can do everything.”

Daniel Craig will return as 007 in Bond 25 with Cary Fukunaga taking over as director from Danny Boyle, who dropped out over creative differences.

Graf suggested her husband for the role after reading about West’s endorsement.

West can next be seen In his new film Colette, in which he plays Willy, the Parisian husband of the titular heroine (Keira Knightley) who he convinces to writes novels under his pen name.

Based on the true story of the iconic French writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, there is a character in the film called Mathilde de Morny (aka Missy), played by Denise Hough, who may have been transgender at the time.

Missy was an open lesbian but dressed in masculine clothes, wore her hair short and smoked cigars, and had a relationship with Colette for several years.

Colette is in cinemas on 11 January 2019
