Doja Cat is bringing back a throwback trend with a touch of new millennium flair.

The “Best Friend” musician took to Instagram last night to give her take on business casual style, throwing on a modern twist on a zoot suit; the zoot suit rose to prominence in men’s fashion during the 1940s and is recognizable from its oversize fit, high-waisted bottoms and padded-shoulder blazer. The silhouette has since become a featured design in both menswear and womenswear collections, favored by the likes of Gucci and Dunhill amongst other top brands.

Doja Cat’s version of the look comes from PrettyLittleThing, styled over a bold backless black bralette, an unbuttoned white blouse and on-trend sandals with a floppy hat to tout.

The 25-year-old singer’s square-toe mules included smooth leather-like straps, flattering the foot with a secured peep-toe cut; the singer’s pair, in particular, came set atop a sculpted heel that appeared to measure over 4 inches in height.

Square-toe footwear returned to the celebrity scene in 2019 and has continued into this year as one of spring and summer’s biggest trends. Be it a classic boot, a flat slide or a towering stiletto heel, the minimalistic silhouette falls in line with a ’90s-inspired revitalization of fashion, as seen with combat boots and thong-toe shoe styles, as well as pops of neon color across apparel and footwear. And now, the design is set to remain one of the biggest trends as spring ’21 approaches.

Doja Cat herself has continued to remain a fan of the 1990s-era silhouette and even tapped a glittering pair from Amina Muadid to top off her bold look at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards.

As for Doja Cat herself, the elevated heels fall in line with her typical taste and style. The “Say So” singer favors the bold for red carpet occasions, modeling everything from sheer Givenchy gowns to pointy Bottega Venetaa heels and custom Georges Hobeika designs. Her off-duty attire includes just as wow-worthy of pieces as well — think Philipp Plein thigh-high boots and Fashion Nova leopard bodysuits. Most recently, Doja Cat partnered with PrettyLittleThing to launch her own collection of must-have styles.
