Every year, our Instagram feed is inundated with snaps of pets decked in festive clobber from reindeer antlers to fair isle knits.

Now, those on the lookout for last-minute Christmas presents for their pet pooches will be pleased to learn that dog leggings are officially a thing. Yep, you read that correctly.

US-based brand Walkee Paws is selling the one-of-a-kind product after founder Lisa Baronoff needed a solution to her own pet problem.

After growing concerned that her beloved pup Toffee was at risk of digesting dangerous chemicals from his dirty paws after walks through Manhattan, she thought up the clever garment.

Baronoff soon created a prototype of the now-launched product by cutting a pair of old tights into leggings which connected snugly over Toffee’s back.

After solving the issue of mucky paws, her team later developed a four-way stretch fabric which is designed to give pets maximum comfort when hitting the pavement.

As described on the website, the dog leggings are in order for pets to join in on the athleisure trend too with a range of four styles to choose from. Sure to turn your dog’s walkies into a runway, there are polka dots, camouflage and plaid options up for grabs.

Priced at $19.99 (approximately £15), the leggings are certainly a worthy investment for owners worried about their dogs bringing dirt into the home – especially over the festive period.

Anyone else seriously considering treating their pet this Christmas or has the manic festive crush left our brains frazzled?
