Doctor Strange Wants Mads Mikkelsen For Villainous Role

‘Hannibal’ star Mads Mikkelsen might just be joining the world of superheroes… as he enters talks for a villainous role in ‘Doctor Strange’.

According to Variety, the 49-year-old Danish actor is currently being pursued for a villainous role in Marvel’s upcoming movie… but will he take the role?

“Mads Mikkelsen is in early talks to play one of the villains in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ opposite Benedict Cumberbatch,” they revealed. “While sources say no offer has been delivered, one is expected shortly. Marvel had no comment on Mikkelsen’s involvement.”

‘Doctor Strange’ will see Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role as Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme – a former-neurosurgeon who learns the art of sorcery in order to protect Earth from mystical threats.

Although little is known about Dr Steven Strange’s first big screen outing, we do know that Tilda Swinton will play the Ancient One – the good doctor’s mentor and teach of the mystical arts. And with Chiwetel Ejiofor joining the cast, it’s thought that he will play classic villain, Baron Mordo.

But who will Mikkelsen be playing?

“Mikkelsen’s exact role remains under wraps,” they explained. “But sources say he will be another antagonist to Cumberbatch’s titular sorcerer.”

Apparently, Marvel has been rather keen on Mikkelsen for some time, and intended to cast him in the role of Malekith in ‘Thor: The Dark World’. Unfortunately, he soon landed the leading role in NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ and was no longer available.

But he’s since signed up for an unknown role in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ – the first ever ‘Star Wars’ spin-off film. And again, little is known about his actual role.

Will Mads Mikkelsen play a familiar ‘Doctor Strange’ villain? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, it’s great news for ‘Doctor Strange’ fans.

‘Doctor Strange’ heads to cinemas on 4 November 2016.
