If you've always wondered about the origins of Buzz Lightyear from Pixar's Toy Story; thanks to Disney, we're getting an answer from the latest movie, Lightyear.

Lightyear follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz (voiced by Chris Evans) tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox (voiced by Peter Sohn).

Interestingly, Evans revealed in a press conference that we attended that he's not met Sohn in person ever since he's involved in the movie. Shot during the pandemic, Evans finally met Sohn during the presser and was thrilled to share his thoughts about the charming and adorable Sox.

Chris Evans on the importance of having emotional support

The relationship between Buzz and Sox is crucial to the film, and it was important to show those dynamics on screen. While both actors did not meet face-to-face during the voice recording sessions, their chemistry definitely shone on screen.

"I like the idea of someone like Buzz who’s this very autonomous, you know, austere kind of guy, but he's given an emotional support cat to acclimate not just from coming back after four years, but just to address problems that he may otherwise overlook," Evans revealed about his character, Buzz.

Evans added, "And I think that’s a nice metaphor for, you know, whether it's therapy or just the fact that we all need those emotional support moments, we all need to talk about our problems and vent, someway. And I just like that relationship, that kind of juxtaposition of someone like Buzz who’s so independent needing someone like Sox the same way we all do."

To all the furparents out there, guess what? Evans revealed he's actually a proud cat owner: "I have a real-life Sox the cat robot, his name’s Dodger. And he is sick of hearing my problems, I can assure you of that." Awww....

He would love to voice Robin Hood

Another interesting tidbit that came out from the press conference was that Evans would be keen to voice Robin Hood if he would be given a choice.

Unsurprisingly, Disney is reportedly planning a live-action version of the 1973 animated film written by Kari Granlund (who also wrote the Lady and the Tramp remake).

"If there was another character to play, I don't think I could pull it off, but I was always [clears throats] a really big fan of Robin Hood, the old animated Disney movie Robin Hood. I think he's just smooth and charming and capable and, you know, I don't have that cool British accent, but I'd love to give it a crack," Evans shared.

The movie also features voiceovers by Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, James Brolin, Uzo Aduba, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Efren Ramirez, and Keira Hairston.

Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear opens in cinemas 16th June.
