Disney has revealed it is actively developing 'a number' of new local Disney+ titles with 'a range of talents' for production in the UK.

Talking during a press conference for the launch of Star, Disney+'s general entertainment product arriving on 23 February, Disney exec Liam Keelan said the streaming platform is 'on the cusp' of announcing the projects which he teased would be across 'drama, comedy, and unscripted'.

Star is set to bring thousands of hours of new content to Disney+, mainly consisting of legacy titles from Disney's many premium TV and film stables – including Lost, The X-Files, Sons of Anarchy, 24, Die Hard – alongside four new Star original titles: Big Sky, Love Victor, Solar Opposites and Helstrom.

The new content will arrive behind new parental controls which will block younger viewers from seeing it.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Senior Vice President, Direct to Consumer and General Manager, Disney+ EMEA, confirmed that Disney+ will eventually become the exclusive streaming home for a number of titles coming to Star including Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.

Film fans disappointed by the lack of back catalogue on Disney+ currently will be pleased to hear that the launch of Star will herald the arrival of a slate new titles 'every month' (Taken is coming in March), with acclaimed superhero films X-Men: First Class and Logan also confirmed to be coming to the service in 2021.

And Golden Girls fans have a reason to rejoice too: Every episode of the hit American sitcom will be coming to Disney+ before the end of the year it was announced.

Current Disney+ subscribers on the £5.99 a month plan will continue to pay that for the next six months (the price change taking effect on the monthly or annual renewal date following 23 August 2021) and will be able to access Star within that plan.

New subscribers to the platform from 23 February will pay the new price of £7.99 per month, or £79.90 annually.
