Disney is creating a reboot of the 1991 hit "The Rocketeer," according to The Hollywood Reporter, to be headlined by a black female character.

"The Rocketeers" will take off from where the 1980s comic "The Rocketeer" by Dave Stevens left off. In the original version, stunt pilot Cliff Secord finds a rocket pack and suit, and soon becomes entangled in subplots with the Nazis, Howard Hughes and the FBI.

In the new version, a young African-American female pilot arrives years after Secord's fight, and takes on the role of Rocketeer to stop a corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jet-pack technology during the Cold War.

The sequel-reboot will see Max Winkler and Matt Spicer penning the script. Brigham Taylor ("The Jungle Book") will produce alongside Blake Griffin from the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers and Ryan Kalil from the NFL's Carolina Panthers.
