In a first for the Disney Channel, the show Andi Mack will spend an hour focusing on one of the main character's coming out as gay.

Andi Mack is the latest show from Terri Minsky, who also created the iconic Lizzie McGuire for the channel. While the show's centered on the titular Andi Mack, young teen Cyrus Goodman, played by 15-year-old Joshua Rush, is a key member in the show's ensemble foursome.

During the season two premiere, which airs Friday, he'll make Disney Channel history with its first coming out narrative, as he grapples with his feelings for another boy in their friend circle. (And in subsequent episodes, work these feelings out alongside his new girlfriend.)

And another sneak peek of #AndiMack season 2!

In a statement, the Disney Channel shared:

"Andi Mack is a story about ‘tweens’ figuring out who they are. [Show creator] Terri Minsky, the cast and everyone involved in the show takes great care in ensuring that it’s appropriate for all audiences and sends a powerful message about inclusion and respect for humanity."

Walt Disney Co. also released the statement that included:

"Our stories are timeless because they speak to the heart; our characters appeal to children across gender, ability, and experience because they're defined by kindness, loyalty, humor, courage, wit and other traits that make a good friend. Disney remains committed to continuing to create characters that are accessible and relatable to all children."
