Disney head Bob Iger has provided an update on the future of the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, insisting that he’s already held discussions with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy for what’s to come after ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’.

According to The Wrap, Iger made this revelation on Wednesday while talking at the garishly named Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference, admitting that they’ve already got future instalments to the universe in the pipeline.

“I had a meeting yesterday with Kathy Kennedy and we mapped out – well, we reviewed – the ‘Star Wars’ plans that we have ‘til 2020,” he admitted.

“We have movies in development for ‘Star Wars’ ‘til then, and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond.”

But here’s the comment that will really get ’Star Wars’ fans excited, as Iger then declared, “So, she’s not just making a ‘Star Wars’ movie, she’s making a ‘Star Wars’ universe, of sorts.”

Considering the monumental success that Marvel Studios has had with their own cinematic universe, and the fact that ‘Star Wars’’ popularity rivals it, there were always going to be more films to the ‘Star Wars’ canon after Colin Trevorrow’s ‘Episode IX’ is released in 2019.

Before then though we’ve not only got the small matter of ‘Episode VIII’ and ‘Episode IX’, but ‘Rogue One,’ too, as well as a Han Solo/Chewbacca origin story and another anthology film that’s due out in 2020.
