UPDATE: In light of the changing coronavirus situation, Disney has updated its movie release schedule for Singapore after an earlier version of this article was published on 15 May 2020. See below for the new schedule.
SINGAPORE — The coronavirus pandemic has been upending the movie and entertainment industries in Singapore since March after the government ordered the closure of cinemas. But cinemas have opened again since last Monday (13 July) after cinema operators worked out anti-COVID-19 safeguards with the government.
Disney earlier announced new release dates on 14 May for its 2020 line-up of movies across its stable of studios, including Marvel, Pixar, 20th Century Fox, and Searchlight Pictures. But it has since changed the schedule due to the changing coronavirus situation in the US market.
Upcoming Disney tentpole Mulan, which was previously scheduled for release on 23 July, is now set to hit screens in Singapore on 20 August.
Other films with new release dates include The New Mutants, The King’s Man, Black Widow, Free Guy, and Soul.
Cinemas across Singapore were closed for more than three months as part of measures to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Singaporeans seem to be engaging in revenge-movie watching as cinemas reopened last week, so much so that the current blockbuster flick, Train To Busan: Peninsula, broke the opening-day box office record for Korean films despite social distancing measures in theatres.
This is the full list of 2020 Disney movies and their release dates:
Empty Man - 6 August
Mulan - 20 August
The New Mutants - 27 August

Disney’s Artemis Fowl, a live-action science fiction-fantasy film based on the books by Eoin Colfer, was earlier removed from the theatrical release schedule and released on 12 June on streaming service Disney+ instead of the original 29 May theatrical debut.
While Disney’s announcement mentioned Antlers and The Woman In The Window, the company did not provide release dates for these movies.
