SINGAPORE — The coronavirus pandemic has been upending the movie and entertainment industries in Singapore since March after the government ordered the closure of cinemas. But movie studios and cinemas may be gearing up to restart operations, in anticipation of the relaxation of “circuit breaker” measures from 1 June.

Disney yesterday (14 May) announced new release dates for its 2020 line-up of movies across its stable of studios, including Marvel, Pixar, 20th Century Fox, and Searchlight Pictures.

Upcoming Disney tentpole Mulan, which was previously scheduled for release on 26 March, just before cinemas and other entertainment outlets were shut down, is now set to hit screens in Singapore on 23 July.

Other films with new release dates include The New Mutants, The King’s Man, Black Widow, and Free Guy, and Soul.

Cinemas across Singapore were ordered to close until 1 June as part of measures to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As of yet, there is no confirmation from the authorities as to whether the closure would be extended or when cinemas will be allowed to re-open.

Yahoo Lifestyle SEA has reached out to Disney for comment.

Singapore reported 793 new cases of coronavirus infections today, bringing the total number so far in the country to 26,098.
