After many delays and shifting launch plans, Disney has finally confirmed that its live action Mulan will be available on Disney+ in the UK from 4 September.

The blockbuster remake of the 1998 animated film will be “exclusively available” to Disney+ subscribers with Premier Access for £19.99. That’s an extra cost on top of the £5.99 monthly subscription, or £59.99 a year, subscribers already pay.

Digging into the terms and conditions, paying for Premier Access to the film means you can watch Mulan from 4 September on Disney+ and “select platforms” including Apple, Google and Roku.

If subscribers pay for Premier Access they can watch the film as many times as they like on any platform Disney+ is available, for as long as you have an active Disney+ subscription.

US subscribers are paying $29.99 for the film on Disney+ which is around £23.

There are currently no plans, it seems, for Mulan to play in UK cinemas, which were able to reopen in 4 July following the global coronavirus lockdown.

Starring Liu Yifei in the title role, the film has been directed by Niki Caro, and also stars Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in supporting roles.

The film was most recently was slated for a theatrical release on 21 August, before it was delayed indefinitely in July.

It was on the verge of release on 27 March, and had held premieres, when the coronavirus pandemic closed theatres around the world. Disney then moved it to 24 July before switching to its most recent date of 21 August.

Cinemas have now reopened across the UK, with Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and Marvel’s The New Mutants both both hitting screens this week.
