Director Soxie Topacio passed away

The director's family member reveals that he passed away due to lung cancer

24 Jul - It was reported that actor-director Soxie Topacio has recently passed away.

As reported on InterAksyon, the news was confirmed by Topacio's niece, Zarah Topacio who said that her uncle died of lung cancer at De Los Santos Medical Centre in Quezon City on 21 July.

Celebrities, including Lea Salonga and director Joey Reyes had since taken to social media to mourn the beloved filmmaker and extend condolences to his family.

Reyes wrote, "Have a safe trip home to the arms of Our Father. Applause for a life so well-lived, Soxy Topacio. You will be missed as you are loved."

Topacio, known as one of the pillars of the Philippine Educational Theater Association, has directed several television shows including the original "Impostora", the remake of "Juan Tamad", and "Dear Uge"; as well as films like "Ded na si Lolo" and "The Adventures of Pureza".

He was 65.
