Dingdong Dantes announces the establishment of AKTOR

3 Jul – Following news that the National Telecommunications Commissions (NTC) has decided to shut ABS-CBN down, Dingdong Dantes recently appeared online to announce the establishment of the League of Filipino Actors or AKTOR.

As reported on GMA News, in a statement that the actor read during a livestream on 2 July, the league slammed the passing of the Anti-Terrorism Bill, the shutdown of the said network, as well as the new film production guidelines made by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) - saying that all of these actions have the purpose of controlling the flow and essence of storytelling, and create a culture of fear.

Dantes added that the group aims to create a community of actors who will not be afraid to create stories that will help build a better country and speak on important issues, rather than being puppets of entertainment.

"We express strong opposition to any law and order that undermines our independent creation. We reject any intrusion into industrial processes without genuine consultation with its workers. We insist that the medium should be open to any information and artwork for the greater good. We believe in the ability of the Filipino people to change the course of the story, to convey to the people the latest Philippine sentiment that should be given attention, and to put the real power of the country's hero - the people," he concluded.
