Dicky Cheung clarifies rumoured conflict with TVB

13 Dec – After many years, Dicky Cheung finally clarified an old rumour about his supposed conflict with TVB, according to On CC.

Back in the late '90s, when Dicky experienced a newfound fame playing Sun Wukong in the TVB adaptation of "Journey to the West", it was rumoured that the company declined his request for a pay raise and allegedly told him that he is worth nothing without his "fur" - referring to his Sun Wukong costume.

It was alleged that that was the reason why Dicky ended up leaving the company and made his way to mainland China.

The actor, who sat in an interview recently, shared that while the comment was truly made by someone, it wasn't coming from TVB.

"The person in question was actually a senior in the movie industry. He invited me to a coffee shop to talk about doing a film. The role didn't require me to have fur glued on me, so they thought that could just lower the price because of it. People say the most hurtful things when they want to lowball you," he said.

Dicky revealed that the words really hurt him that he left immediately.

"At the time, I even thought to myself that if I wasn't Sun Wukong, could I even make it? I was already in my 30s at the time," he said.

The actor declined to name the person, and said that he is no longer angry about it.

"I have learned the two most important F words - Forgive and Forget. Once I forgive, I will not think about the incident ever again," he said.
