"Detention" wins big at Taipei Film Awards

15 Jul – The Taiwanese psychological horror film, "Detention" was the big winner at the 22nd Taipei Film Awards.

As reported on Epoch Times, the movie which is helmed by director John Hsu and is based on the popular horror video game of same name developed by Red Candle Games from Taiwan, won six accolades including the Grand Prize and Best Actress for 22-year-old Gingle Wang.

Gingle, who came to the event to accept the award, thanked the cast and crew for giving her the opportunity to star in the film. The actress was previously nominated for her role in the said movie at the 56th Golden Horse Awards, but lost to "Wet Season" star Yeo Yann Yann.

On the other hand, the Best Actor award went to Mo Tzu-yi ("Dear Tenant"), while Chang Jung-chi won Best Director for his movie, "We Are Champions". The filmmaker stated that the pandemic might have forced him to slow down his work, but that the accolade has given him the encouragement to continue with his art.

The 2020 Taipei Film Awards was held on at the Zhongshan Hall in Taipei as part of the Taipei Film Festival.
