Derek Yee defends picking Charlene Choi as HKFA co-host

13 Feb – Filmmaker Derek Yee has recently defended the Hong Kong Film Awards' Association decision to appoint Charlene Choi and Louis Cheung as the hosts of this year's Hong Kong Film Awards.

As reported on Mingpao, Derek, who is also a Chairman of the said association, admitted that even Charlene told them - upon being contacted for the job - that she is not confident about hosting such a grand event.

"She said that it would be a big pressure, but we are confident that she can do it since she has stage experience," he said.

On the other hand, last year's host Ronald Cheng has been nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in "Concerto of the Bully".

He expressed, "I am so happy. It's hard enough to take part in a music-related movie. Thank you for voting. This year I can finally sit down with the audience!"

If Ronald wins the award, it would be the first time he and ex-wife Charlene Choi will be on the same stage together.
