Derek Tsang elated for his first Hong Kong Best Director accolade

6 Mar – Derek Tsang recently admitted that he was over the moon following news that he has been chosen by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society to win Best Director for "Better Days".

As reported on Mingpao, the filmmaker who attended the closed ceremony of the 26th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards held at the Wan Chai Art Centre to accept the accolade, stated that this is the first time that he had won an award in Hong Kong despite having been recognised elsewhere in the past.

"I am a Hong Kong filmmaker, so to be recognised by Hong Kong filmmakers and critics, I am very honoured indeed," he said.

Derek stated that he did not publicly thank wife Venus Wong on stage, saying in jest that he would do it at home as doing so publicly would be nauseating to others.

As for his father, Eric Tsang, Derek said that the veteran actor was very happy for the recognition he received.

"When I was nominated Best Director at the Hong Kong Film Awards for "Better Days", my father sent me a text telling me about it. I am happy to be nominated, but I will not think too much about it. The greater you hope, the bigger the disappointment," he said.
