Deng Chao says Golden Rooster award was a surprise

19 Sep - Chinese actor Deng Chao recently admitted that he didn't expect to win Best Actor at the 31st Golden Rooster Awards.

As reported on Sina, the actor who won for his role in the 2015 movie, "The Dead End", thanked the organiser for the acknowledgment, to director Cao Baoping for believing in him, and to the rest of the cast and crew of the said movie.

However, in an interview with the media after the event Deng admitted that he didn't prepare any speech prior to his appearance at the event, since he didn't think he would win.

Deng faced a group of worthy contenders in the category, including the multiple award-winning stars Liao Fan ("The Final Master") and Feng Xiaogang ("Mr. Six").

In "The Dead End", based on the novel "Sunspot" by Xu Yigua, Deng plays assistant police Xin Xiaofeng, who was suspected of being connected to the events of the Water Chamber Murders.

According to the Golden Rooster, Deng won the Best Actor award for his finely crafted and layered performance as the lonely and melancholic Xin Xiaofeng.
