Who really won the 2006 World Cup?

Victoria Beckham led a gaggle of WAGs on a night out during the 2006 World Cup decked in hot pants and a fuschia-hued top. Colleen McLoughlin (the then-girlfriend of Wayne Rooney), Louise Owen (wife of Michael Owen) and Elen Rivas (fiancé of Frank Lampard) joined the former Spice Girl in peep-toe heels and co-ordinating blow drys. Unforgettable fashion moments from the 2006 World Cup

In the summer of 2006, Victoria Beckham led her WAG squad through the streets of Baden-Baden to watch their other-halves play Portugal in the World Cup quarter finals.

But within minutes of the game, the nation’s focus took a double-take from the pitch and gravitated towards the unmistakable Essex-style tans, poker-straight extensions and supersized sunnies.

Little did they know, the girl’s trip would become a cultural marker in the sartorial history books with the acronym ‘WAG‘ officially given the English Dictionary stamp of approval.

Teetering upon red-soled Louboutins with Birkin bags swinging from the crook of their arms, there wasn’t a shopping trip or drunken taxi-exit gone undocumented by the newspapers. Fast-forward 12 years and we’re still obsessing over the footballer’s wives phenomenon.

From Victoria Beckham’s hot pant phase to the then-Cheryl Tweedy (she married Ashley a month later in July 2006) beehive blow dry, these are the most unforgettable WAG fashion moments of the 2006 World Cup.
