Deannie Ip wants to do movies about women's issues

19 Apr - After winning her latest Hong Kong Film Awards accolade for her role in "Our Time Will Come", Deannie Ip hopes to work on more movies that focuses on women's issues.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress who appeared at the HKFA celebration banquet recently, shared, "I would love to see more movies being made about women's issues, especially in Southeast Asia. Even in Africa, there are many women who had to sell their children or marry early because of poverty. This is a tragedy, but a lot of people are ignoring it."

Deannie said that although there have been movies about such topics in the past, it seems to be more and more unattainable nowadays.

"Is it because people are more aware now? Or is it because people no longer care? [If I am given the chance to do this type of movie], I will not be afraid of the challenge. But it doesn't necessarily have to be me. I just hope that someone will take on this subject," she said.

The actress added that she once saw a documentary about a similar issue, and wished that she would be as smart and as financially capable as Bill Gates to be able to help these poor women.

When asked if she would ask Andy Lau to invest in such a movie, Deannie said, "I never thought about that."
