Deadpool composer Junkie XL quits Deadpool 2

It’s official - Junkie XL has quit ‘Deadpool 2’.

Appearing on Twitter, ‘Deadpool’ composer Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg) has revealed that he won’t be back for the upcoming ‘Deadpool’ sequel…

“Dear friends,” he begins. “It is with a heavy heart that I have decided not to score the upcoming Deadpool movie. I love this character and creating his and the movie’s original score was a monumental chapter in my life, personally and professionally.”

And it seems it’s all down to director Tim Miller’s departure.

“Since it was revealed that Deadpool’s brilliant creative director Tim Miller will not be involved in the project anymore, I have undertaken some soul searching,” he explained. “Tim was the driving force behind Deadpool and me getting involved in this amazing project. Deadpool without Tim at the helm just does not sit right with me and that is why I have decided not to be involved in the second chapter.”

Of course, ‘Deadpool’ director Tim Miller sensationally left the project just last week, with creative differences reported as the reason he chose to quit.

And now it looks as though his departure will have far reaching complications for the upcoming superhero sequel.

“It was a difficult decision,” said Holkenborg, “as I love the project so much and I know how eagerly the next instalment will be anticipated, it’s hard to walk away from something so unique, but it also has to feel right. Hope everyone understands. Onward and upward.”

Will others behind the scenes follow suit? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But it looks as though ‘Deadpool 2’ will need to find another composer on top of a replacement director.

‘Deadpool 2’ heads to cinemas on 2 March 2018.
