Deadpool 2 has its villain!

After the announcement that Josh Brolin — aka Thanos in another movie universe not so faraway — was cast as Cable in the sequel to Deadpool, the team at Geek Crusade have been wondering which villain from the comics would end up in the movie. Surely it’d have to be a mutant because of their pesky copyright agreement with Marvel Studios, but beyond that, no one had any real guesses.

So it was a surprise when Fox announced that Jack Kesy had signed on to Deadpool 2 as its villain. Kesy, who is best known as Gabriel Bollivar in The Strain, will also be seen in the upcoming Baywatch movie. (Yes, more eye candy in Deadpool please)

There’s some speculation that Kesy might be playing Black Tom, a.k.a. Tom Cassidy. Fans of the comics know him as the cousin of Sean Cassidy a.k.a. Banshee (played by Caleb Landry Jones in X-Men: First Class). Black Tom has the power to “manipulate, bond with, and project energy through plant life”. He can also produce concussive blasts with a shillelagh, or a walking stick/cudgel usually associated with Irish folklore.

Deadpool 2 is currently scheduled to be released on June 1 next year, with most of the cast reprising their roles from the first movie, including Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Stefan Kapacic as Colossu, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Do you think Black Tom would be a good fit for the Deadpool/X-Men movie universe? Tell us!
