Deadpool 2 Officially In The Works

It’s official – ‘Deadpool 2’ is happening.

During 20th Century Fox’s CinemaCon panel, the studio confirmed that ‘Deadpool 2’ is already in the works… and is moving forward with Ryan Reynolds returning as the Merc with a Mouth.

“[20th Century] Fox said that the entire creative team behind the superhero blockbuster will be back,” says Variety, “with original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick handling script duties.”

Of course, this is no big surprise – a sequel was rumoured shortly before the film was released… and with ‘Deadpool’ smashing box office records, a follow-up was considered a certainty.

But now it’s official – ‘Deadpool 2’ is really happening.

“The first film grossed $757.3 million globally,” they explain, “making it the highest grossing R-rated film on a worldwide basis.” And that’s bound to have piqued the studios interest for a sequel.

Not to mention that it’s re-ignited Ryan Reynolds’ career after ‘RIPD’ and ‘Green Lantern’.

‘Deadpool’ marked the directorial debut for Tim Miller… and it seems to have been quite the baptism of fire. Now poised to return for the sequel, this could be the jump-start Miller needs. And we have to wonder whether he’ll eventually be given further Fox superhero movies to work on.

Either way, he’s definitely returning for ‘Deadpool 2’, along with Ryan Reynolds.

But will Cable appear in the upcoming sequel?

It’s a move that would make a lot of sense – the Marvel mutant is a firm fan-favourite and makes a natural partner for Deadpool following their numerous comic book team-ups. And with rumours that Domino will also appear in the ‘Deadpool’ sequel, it could well be the X-Men movie we’ve all been waiting for.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
