"Darna" is finally filming after five years of delay

23 Jan – It looks like the highly-anticipated superhero project, "Darna" is finally filming after years and years of delays and postponement.

As reported on Push, news of the film finally in production sparked when its latest and current director Jerrold Tarog shared a photo on social media of the Darna Funko Pop figurine against the backdrop of several film crews.

He captioned it, "Day 1".

Netizens who saw the photo immediately went on the comment section to wish the director good luck, including actress Iza Calzado, who expressed her excitement with a simple, "YAAAAS!!!"

The superhero movie faced numerous obstacles since it was announced back in 2015 with Erik Matti helming the project. After its original star Angel Locsin departed from the project due to her back injury, the movie postponed its production while awaiting the actress' recovery, only to grind to a halt again after Locsin confirmed that she could no longer participate in the film to avoid aggravating her injury.

In 2017, Liza Soberano was announced as the new Darna to replace Locsin, and underwent rigorous training in preparation for her role. However, just as the studio was prepping up to begin production, the actress left the project in early 2019 due to an injury to her finger that she sustained while filming her fantasy series, Bagani".

Director Erik Matti departed soon after, citing "creative differences" as the reason for his leaving. He was later replaced by "Heneral Luna" director Jerrold Tarog, who cast new face, Jane de Leon as the new Darna.
