14 Jun – Dante Lam has been selected as this year's recipient of the Daniel A. Craft Award for Excellence in Action Cinema at the 17th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).
As reported on SubwayCinema, NYAFF's Executive Director Samuel Jamier stated that Dante has "reinvented the crime drama and the war movie in the past decade", and that the festival is awarding him this year as 2018 also marks Dante's achievement in "conquering the box office in China whilst maintaining his integrity as an auteur director."
It was previously reported that Dante's CNY offering, "Operation Red Sea" became the second-highest grossing Chinese-language film of all time at the China box office, with approximately USD 575 million.
Aside from the award, the festival is also hosting a special 10th anniversary 35mm screening of the director's critically-acclaimed 2008 crime drama, "The Beast Stalker", starring Nick Cheung and Nicholas Tse.
Prior to Dante, previous recipients of the said award include South Korean filmmaker Jeong Byeong-Gil and mainland director Yue Song.
The 17th New York Asian Film Festival will be held from 29 June to 15 July.
