18 Aug – Actor Daniel Wu recently revealed the reason why he decided to rebuild his career in Hollywood even though he is already a big star in Asia.
As reported on Mingpao, the actor recently sat down with Swing's Jerald Chan's podcast, "This Week with Jer", in which he shared his motivation in making the move to Hollywood, saying that it was less about the money and more about paving the way for the next generation.
"Many people asked me why I went to the United States to struggle. I can make a lot of money in Hong Kong and mainland markets... But what I am doing now is to prepare for the next generation... so that young Asian kids growing up in America or in Europe or anywhere in the world [think] 'I can be a movie star too', I can be an actor too'," he said.
Daniel pointed out that the US film and television industry is no longer "anti-Asian" as it used to be, and is much more open to various ethnicities.
"Right now the door has been opened a bit, so I hope to push the door open and go through it, even though this is a very difficult thing."
