7 Jan – "Knives Out" has been a smash hit worldwide since its theatrical release in late November.

Considering its nearly USD250 million international earnings, plus "No Time to Die" (releasing this April) long-confirmed as Daniel Craig's last Bond film and "Knives Out's" 3 nominations at the recent Golden Globes, there is no better time to make a sequel.

And indeed, director Rian Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter at a pre-Golden Globes party that he will be reteaming with Craig on a follow-up to the 2019 movie.

The sequel will focus on Craig's sharp Southern detective Benoit Blanc solving an entirely new case.

Although Lionsgate has not officially greenlit the sequel, the stars seem to be aligning for it to start filming soon. Confirming this further, Ram Bergman, one of the producers, said that the actor wants to come back for the role. "Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more."

Even before the movie's release in cinemas, Johnson himself had told Screen Junkie he'd love to do a sequel with Craig. "If I can get together with Daniel every few years and do a new Benoit Blanc mystery? New location, new cast, new mystery. It'd be so much fun."

Benoit Blanc was inspired by Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot, who solved a new case with every book. He said to Uproxx, "I've never really been interested in doing sequels, but this, the idea of doing more of these with Daniel as his character, is not sequels.

"It's just what Agatha Christie did. It's just coming up with a whole new mystery, a whole new location, all new cast, whole new mechanics of the appeal of a mystery and everything."

"Knives Out" was a very star-studded affair, its sequel could see Craig working with an entirely new cast, however.

"Knives Out" introduced audiences to Benoit Blanc, a private detective called in by the police to help solve a deceptively simple-looking mystery. The wealthy crime novelist Harlan Thrombey has died, and his family members are investigated one by one.

Even with just a single movie under his belt, Blanc is already on par with some of the most iconic investigators in history such as Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot.

Johnson also directed "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", the second movie in the latest "Star Wars" trilogy. Rumours are floating around that Lucasfilm have brought him on as a director for a whole new "Star Wars" trilogy of his own.

If it's true, it could delay the filming of "Knives Out 2". Either way, Johnson is still in the early stages of developing the sequel, so we will just have to wait and see where Craig's Benoit Blanc will be headed next.
