Daneil Lam says company still makes HK movies

1 Apr – Although his company was among the many Hong Kong production studios who have moved to focus on the mainland China market, Universal International CEO Daneil Lam stated that he still makes one or two Hong Kong movies per year.

As reported on Mingpao, the film producer, who addressed the concerns of Hong Kong's Federation of Film Workers and Entertainers Association president Tin Kai Man about the film industry in Hong Kong, stated that they are currently in the pre-production stage of the upcoming movie, "The White Storm 3".

"We will start working on [the aforementioned movie] in summer, then we will produce an airplane disaster movie starring Andy Lau," he said.

Lam also added that the company, which has moved its base to Beijing, was actually supposed to begin the production of two movies in April, including the Oxide Pang film, "Out of Inferno 2" - both with mainland actors in the lead.

"But everything will depend on the situation concerning the pandemic," he said.

Earlier this week, Tin expressed his concern about the fate of the Hong Kong film industry, following the government's announcement that they will be shutting down cinemas temporarily to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
