Dakota Johnson felt "protective" of her The Peanut Butter Falcon co-star Shia LaBeouf following his arrest.
The Transformers star hit rock bottom while making his latest flick in Savannah, Georgia in July 2017, when he was arrested for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and obstruction, with police bodycam footage documenting his profanity-filled tirade.
Speaking during an appearance on Wednesday's instalment of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dakota opened up about her experience surrounding the incident.
"It was really sad and I felt very protective of him and I felt... that's a really terrifying and difficult journey for somebody to experience and I felt really aware of that," the 30-year-old said. "You know, we were there to make this movie and (co-star Zack Gottsagen) is really a phenomenal human being and you feel very awake to the truth of life, and humanity, and love, and people, and real connections when you're with him and that was a very important moment for Shia."
Following the incident, the star credited his arrest for "changing his life" for the better, and Dakota confessed she stuck by her pal to help him "get through".
"I don't condemn people for their mistakes," she added. "I want them to get through it so that's what I tried to do."
