"Daddy Cool" denies Carlos Chan was Fred Cheng's replacement

24 Apr – Producer Amy Wong has recently dismissed rumours that Fred Cheng's dating scandal was the reason why he was dropped from the series, "Daddy Cool" and was replaced by Carlos Chan.

According to HK01, tabloids previously reported that Fred was originally cast in the project when it was in pre-production in the early 2017. However, the news of his relationship with singer Stephanie Ho broke just as his drama "Provocateur" concluded, with many claiming that he cheated on singer Lesley Chiang to be with Stephanie.

It was also reported that despite the scandal, TVB still wanted to work with Fred on the new project, but that they couldn't reach him after the scandal broke out.

When asked to address the rumours recently, producer Amy Wong said that the only truth in that rumour is that she did consider Fred for the role. However, the singer was not the only person they had in mind for it.

"We did consider him, but it wasn't like we wrote the role with anyone particular. That's not how my team works. We find the actor after we write the script," she said.

Amy stressed that she found Carlos to be perfect for the role upon meeting him.

"That's why we chose him. We didn't hesitate a bit," she said, adding that Carlos had the right aura to play the character.
