Could George Michael Join The X Factor?

We’ve barely had time to wave goodbye to this year’s X Factor, but already rumours are circulating about what changes Simon Cowell could be making to the show next year.

Jeez, at least give Louisa Johnson time to wipe her winner’s tears and let the stage crew sweep up the confetti before talking about X Factor 2016.

According to the latest reports, Simon is keen to sign George Michael up to ‘revive’ his talent show, which has suffered low ratings this year.

However, he’ll apparently face tough competition from The Voice, who are also keen to get the legend on-board when they relaunch on ITV in 2017.

A source told The Daily Star: “It seems a case of ‘careless whispers’. ITV love the idea of having George on The Voice but someone has blabbed and now X Factor want him.”

ITV are apparently prepared to offer £1million for George, with an insider adding: “George was a guest singer on the show in 2009 and Simon tried to get him for X Factor USA.

“Maybe he can finally persuade him as X Factor has a track record for finding artists. The Voice hasn’t found a star in four years.”

Meow.

However, ITV say the claims are purely speculation, with an X Factor spokesman insisting: “No discussions have been held yet on next year’s series.”

Watch this space.

Simon spoke exclusively to Yahoo Celebrity at the X Factor final red carpet event, revealing he’s not worried about sharing ITV with The Voice.

He said: “It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s on BBC or ITV. In a weird way, I think it’ll be more gentlemanly when it’s on ITV. I’ve been on lots of networks where we had two shows on at the same time.

“[The X Factor] is going to stay where it is, they’ve already told us that.”
