Costa is offering its customers a free coffee for the whole day next Tuesday 1 October, which marks International Coffee Day.

Rather than giving free coffee away at its physical stores, the UK-based coffee franchise will be allowing its customers to get their cup at its over 8,500 Costa Express machines nationwide.

A range of complimentary drinks will be available, including latte, americano, cappuccino, espresso and, for those who don’t like coffee, hot chocolate. Newer machines also include flat white, cortado and flavoured milk drinks options.

The brand hopes the machine will reverse a time-old “stigma” surrounding self-serve coffee machines, Costa Express managing director Scott Martin said in a press release.

This stigma, he claims, is down to the “freeze-dried coffee, long life milk, clumpy soups and bland hot chocolate were readily stocked in machines across the late nineties and early noughties.”

However, Martin insists Costa Express’ machines are a mile away from this, serving the “fresh signature Mocha Italia coffee beans and fresh semi-skimmed milk you would expect in our Costa Coffee stores.”
