Fashion brand COS is giving damaged garments new life with its latest collection.
The clothing label, which is part of the H&M Group, has worked with The Renewal Workshop to launch the ‘Restore Collection,' a series created using clothing sourced from H&M's own supply chain, or returned to the retailer by shoppers. The pieces were cleaned and repaired using waterless technology by The Renewal Workshop, which provides circular solutions for textiles, in order to be turned into new styles by COS.
"The 'Restore' collection is an important test to stretch our thinking around new Business Models for a Circular Economy," said Laura Coppen, Circular/Sustainable Business Development at The Laboratory, H&M Group, in a statement published to the H&M site. "We have a big responsibility with the scale and impact we currently have on the environment and this test is one example of many where we are exploring new solutions."
The Restore collection, which will go on sale on September 4 in COS stores in Berlin, Stockholm and Utrecht, is the latest of several sustainable initiatives from the H&M Group, which counts the brands H&M, Cos, Monki, Cheap Monday, & Other Stories and Weekday as part of its portfolio. In April the group announced that 57% of the materials it now uses are created using recycled or other sustainably sourced fibers, and in June it backed greener commercial transport initiatives in a bid to become more environmentally friendly. The news also marks a major milestone for COS, which launched childrenswear and babywear lines last year.
