Coronavirus Cancellations: Events & Attractions Closed in Japan Due to Covid-19 (March 2020)

Due to the recent outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Japan, sporting events and large events have been cancelled or postponed, and many larger attractions such as Tokyo Disneyland are temporarily closed.

To help those visiting Japan during this time, we have put together information about such cancellations and closures. The following is based on official information from facilities that are particularly popular with overseas tourists.

A total of 72 “Informal Spring 2020 Games (Open Games)” scheduled to be held from February 29 (Sat.) to March 15 (Sun.) will be held as no-spectator matches.
From February 29 (Saturday) to March 12 (Thursday), "Spring Education League" games will also be held as no-spectator games

・Soccer J.LEAGUE [Postponed]
All J.LEAGUE matches and J.LEAGUE YBC Levain CUP matches scheduled between February 28 and March 15 have been postponed.

・Japan Rugby Top League [Postponed]

The "Davis Cup by Rakuten 2020 Final Qualifying Round Vs. Ecuador" that is scheduled to be held at Bourbon Beans Dome, Hyogo Prefecture from March 6 to 7 will be a no-spectator match.

・Osaka Grand Sumo Tournament [No-Spectator Match / Behind Closed Doors]
The Osaka Grand Sumo Tournament (Edion Arena Osaka) from March 8 to March 22 will be held behind closed doors.

・Kabuki [Some Performances Cancelled]
Cancelled: March 2 - 10 “Kabukiza Theatre March program”
Cancelled: March 4 – 10 “Minamiza Theatre March program (Super Kabuki II SHINPAN OGURI)”

In addition, regarding events scheduled for the three-week period from February 22 to March 15, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has announced that indoor, large-scale events and those offering food are to be postponed or cancelled.
