Real Hair Flowers Are the Coolest New Trend for 2018
While hair flowers trended on the spring and fall 2018 runways, flora and fauna might actually be the oldest hair accessories known to mankind. Adorning your hair with flowers is not a trend, but a custom, in many parts of the world. Indian brides have long created ornate floral headpieces for their weddings, while women in dozens of other countries use hair flowers as a cultural touchstone. It depends on the flowers you choose and how you style them that makes the tradition feel fashion-forward.
With over 400,000 species of petals on the planet, the possibilities-and hairstyles-are endless. We turned to It-floral design firm, Putnam & Putnam and up-and-coming flower hair artist Jeannie Huang to help us land the groundbreaking garden-inspired looks for the season–just in time for spring.
GET THE LOOK: Give the humble ponytail a glam upgrade by decking it out in yellow flowers of all shapes and sizes. Keep the front smooth and shiny, but the tail full of fuzzy texture to ensure your blooms and bobby pins have a secure foundation.

GET THE LOOK: Any flower with a sturdy, straight and thorn-less stem will work well as an accoutrement to a slick chignon, but the white calla lily only adds to the graphic and linear drama.

GET THE LOOK: While it makes for some incredible Instagrams, you'll need to act fast when working with an opulent floral headpiece. Even the freshest and perkiest flowers will start to wilt as they come into contact with body heat.

GET THE LOOK: You can turn any flower of any size into a statement hair accessory with the right tools. Secure larger petals to bobby pins and combs using wire; daintier blooms can be temporarily glued into place using eyelash adhesive.

GET THE LOOK: Like a classic leather jacket with floral embroidery, a metallic midnight toned lipstick adds a punk edge to a spiky blue flower crown.

GET THE LOOK: If you can pull your hair into a cheerleader-y ponytail, you can create this style inspired by Prada's spring 2015 show. Pull the ponytail high up on your head and slightly off center, then swoop the tail down along your face and toward the opposite ear. Secure the tail by your ear with a few bobby pins, then pop-in a scattering of bright red carnations.

GET THE LOOK: A glossy side braid looks wildly innovative thanks to the addition of pale pink flowers spiraled down along the plait. Don’t forget to cover the bottom elastic with even more petals (using a comb or a few pins) to solidify the illusion.
