Controversial director Namewee freed on bail

26 Aug – "Finally I'm free!" was singer-director Namewee's status update on Facebook, following his recent release after the end of his four-day remand order.
Yesterday, Namewee, also known as Wee Meng Chee, was brought to court for a possible extension of his remand order, according to The Star.
He was later taken to another court, where the remand extension application was rejected by a magistrate's court. The 33-year-old did not immediately walk free, however, as he was taken to the George Town police district headquarters afterwards.
At 2.47pm today, the singer was finally freed on bail and left in a red Perodua Alza driven by his friends.
In the same update he posted on Facebook after his release, the controversial filmmaker thanked the "Muslim friends that understand him."
It was his act of supposedly insulting Islam that landed him in jail on Monday, following his arrest at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) upon his return from abroad on Sunday. The police had been after him after complaints were made regarding his new music video, "Oh My God".
The music video, featuring Taiwanese band called Nine-One-One, was filmed at the floating mosque in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, and purportedly portrayed the country's official religion in a bad light. He was unable to be detained earlier as he was out of the country.
Namewee is no stranger to controversy, his last movie, "Banglasia", did not even make it to the big screen in Malaysia due to political sensitivity.
